Homework:

Every night your student will bring home a homework folder and an agenda notebook. Because this is the first year students are introduced to agendas, significant support is given in an effort to help them become responsible and organized. Each day your student will write down their assignments in their agenda and insert the necessary papers into their homework folder.

Please check this folder/agenda notebook daily as this is where you will find homework assignments, information about class happenings, and corrected work. Please also initial the agenda on the corresponding day where assignments have been written - this lets me know that the materials have been seen. Completed homework or notes that need to be returned to school should be sent back in this folder.

The three types of homework expected of your student are listed below:

#1. Reading:

We aim to put reading at the forefront of homework with the ultimate goal of fostering a

love of reading! Students are expected to read at home daily and may choose texts

they enjoy. They will be held accountable for their reading by participating in

opportunities to share and talk about their readings in the classroom (i.e. book talks, reading responses). Students are encouraged to record the books read at home in a reading

list, and will watch this list grow during this exciting year of reading.

#2. Math Facts:

Throughout the year, your child will be asked to practice math facts at home in order to

build fluency and automaticity.

#3. Test Preparation:

As we advance into the year students will be given study guides to assist them in preparing for our third-grade assessments. More detailed information will be provided about each of these homework components as we ease into our homework routine.
